Russell W. Pike, age 77, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at The Oaks in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was born in Gloucester, MA, a son of the late William H. and Ruth P. (Younger) Pike, and had lived in New Bedford for many years.

Russell was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked as a lumper in the fishing industry, retiring in 2005 and had previously been a cab driver with Standard Taxi for several years. Russell was a former...

Russell W. Pike, age 77, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at The Oaks in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was born in Gloucester, MA, a son of the late William H. and Ruth P. (Younger) Pike, and had lived in New Bedford for many years.

Russell was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked as a lumper in the fishing industry, retiring in 2005 and had previously been a cab driver with Standard Taxi for several years. Russell was a former boxer and trainer and remained a loyal fan of the sport.

He is survived by 6 children: James Pike of New Bedford, MA, Pamela Alexander of Naples, FL, Robert Pike of Lakeville, MA, Lorraine "Lori" Pike of New Bedford, MA, David Pike of FL, and Russell Pike, Jr. of Arlington, MA; 3 step-children: Darlene Mallen of New Bedford, MA, Jason Johnson of Lynn, MA and John Mallen of CA; and Paul Poirier who was like an adopted son; Siblings: William Pike of New Bedford,MA, Jean Cannon and Leo Pike of New Bedford,MA, the late Raymond Pike; 11 Grandchildren; 4 Step-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Grandchild; 1 Step Great-Grandchild; Many nieces and Nephews.

His family will receive relatives and friends during his visitation on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
